Scapegoating and its role in the Culture of Hatred
Not Guilty
Scapegoats provide us with a source for absolution. The ability to transfer our guilt to some other poor creature provides us with the opportunity to transgress and abuse, without the specter of guilt being felt for our actions.
In such an existence, we find ourselves free to abuse others, to freely disrespect them, with no consideration for them or their just rights, and no appreciation for their struggles or contributions; simply disregarding them and focusing solely on our own wants and needs. In such an arrangement, we may freely seek our own gratification, knowing that we can always lay the blame on another. Now this is the circumstance where scapegoats find their use. I do not pretend to state that those who make such abuses are aware or acknowledge their self-centered motivation. I fully accept that such actions occur free of willful planning of such sinister acts. I do not, however, willingly accept the fact that this occurs, at all. In fact, I condemn them for being completely oblivious to these facts, as a result, of their semi-psychotic mindsets, that clouds their concern and recognition of the sins and acts. They operate on a plane of existence that is devoid of conscience, that grants themselves an apparent lack of awareness of the damage they wreak.
As I have already covered much earlier in our text, the number of individuals whose world is structured in such a way represents a rather significant portion of the total population. In those prior pages we discussed the idea of one-dimensional thinking, (self-centered living) where all circumstances and scenarios are considered solely from the perspective of that person with little or no regard for others involved or effected. The term narcissist applies to some degree but is not an exact match for this condition, in that a person does not have to feel a great deal of self-Love to be so inclined.
Important in all this though is the vast number of people, who because of their inability to notice the plight of those around them, have a propensity to make use of scapegoating, to facilitate their daily lives of irresponsibility. Worse still is the fact that, in these cases, undeserving persons are being saddled with blame they have not earned. That many otherwise innocent souls are being held responsible for actions others have committed, and offenses they did not make.
