Etiam Tu: Eradicating Hatred Section 6 Hatreds: Other Forms and Considerations, and Prophetic Universalism

Prophetic Universalism II

Eleanor Roosevelt

Too Much Freedom

As we seek our goal of eliminating Hatred via Prophetic Universalism, we are not speaking only of an equalization or reciprocation of respect for peoples right to believe differently,

but more so in equality of individuals, and each of our rights to hold our own individual beliefs, styles and creeds. Everyone if equal must be free to be and believe as they see fit. This does not, however, give an open book to anyone to exceed beyond their personal autonomy on to the peaceful, equal existence of another.

Key to life in accordance with the philosophy of Etiam Tu is respect. Respect is the intentional restraint of our freedom, to be considerate of the wishes, wants and sensibilities of the others around us. Not simply from fear or repression due to the threat of physical reprisal, but from an earnest desire not to offend. Respect and consideration both are key to an orderly and equal existence between differing parties. Sadly these two elements of Etiam Tu are often absent in many instances. As we gain our dominant position in the societies of man, we must reaffirm to the parent, their role and responsibility in passing along these crucial social skills to their offspring.

For too long in Western civilization, freedom has been abused and perverted into a right to be rude, Hateful, stingy and callous. The right to be an a whole and raise children who are a wholes. The concept of too much Freedom may be foreign to the reader or anyone who hears the term, but when considered in the light of what can come from misuse or mismanagement of freedoms, it becomes clear that these things can exist.
