Threats to Survival
With our expansion of the list of things to be considered personal assaults, affronts and disrespectful of our character and/or person, we have likewise expanded our definition of threat. So much so that in the context of our current real-time existence, we have sought to achieve the inclusion of various non-lethal factors, into the pantheon of items that are to be considered threats to our ongoing survival. And as previously noted while our expansion of this list, legitimately includes items that while not deadly do interrupt our ability to maintain a source of income necessary to sustain ourselves and our families, we have as in so many other issues, over expanded our list.
We now equate almost anything that threatens to set back our progress up the socioeconomic ladder or displace the current level or standard of living we have achieved in the near or long-term, as threats to our survival. The lack of real threats to our continuing life (i.e. breathing, heart beating, ability to have food, clothing and shelter) has been transmuted to a state of existence where if someone's actions could hinder our ability or likelihood of getting a promotion that will lead to a bigger house, better car or more leisure opportunities, we view that person's actions or intentions as threats to our survival. We have become so accustomed to living free of actual threat or domination. We see any inconvenience as intentional and unbearable. Our lives are so keenly focused on our own well-being that all obstacles are viewed as unacceptable and if linked to a particular person, direct, intentional assaults and affronts on our persons.
The aggravation, agitation and indignation that often result, contributes to the ongoing level of volatility existent throughout our society, and influences our decisions to approach interactions in a guarded and defensive manner. The state of our collective psyches places the lives of each of us at risk from the swirling inducement of Hate and distrust for one another, that defines each of our lives. The concept of a person having to look out for number one is practically accepted as axiomatic.
