Though Hatred shared the (-) end of our spectrum with total indifference, it was clearly stated that:

1.) Hatred and total indifference were not coequal and 2.) that they were both there by virtue of their common sharing of

differences with Empathy.

The main point being that these two mental states, Hatred and total indifference, were separate and distinct in their differences.

That being said: the opposite of Love and Hate is indifference. Total indifference is the biggest most dangerous and most devastatingly destructive threat we face as a species/culture/society. Indifference is a prerequisite for becoming a serial killer. It is a cancer against humanity and civilization on an individual, group, even national level. Everywhere there are people whose level of concern for the suffering of others is dwindling. While many may give to established and maintained charitable organizations; and although gross receipts may be higher than in the past, the steady decline of the average man's overall outlook on the value of the well-being of another person to them is indicated by the fact that you will find the number of friends on average is shrinking. Technology has advanced to the point where the need, interest and opportunity for human interaction is of lessening importance. As this trend continues this condition and negatively influenced stimuli will most likely push society toward total indifference. And, of course, this presents the greatest hazard because indifference is so similar to Hatred in those shared aspects.
